DoctorVox Voice Therapy Technique (DVT) Training Program

(Limited number of participants)

This intensive training workshop is designed for clinicians with certain experience in voice therapy. Each participant will receive a set of DVT tools and a DVT User Certificate upon completing the course.

08.00-09.30: Philosophy of DVT: A muscle-specific multidimensional approach

Voice therapy is the primary treatment for voice disorders. The ‘black box’ of voice therapy includes questions such as which exercise to use for which disorder and why. Clinicians can find answers through a multidimensional approach that integrates applied physioanatomy, physiotherapy, and motor learning. The DoctorVox Therapy Program, a muscle-specific voice therapy approach, provides repeatability and reproducibility for the treatment of a specific disorder. DVT utilizes principles from various disciplines (physiotherapy, sports medicine, motor learning, and behavior therapy) within a well-defined framework with purpose-built devices.

09.30-10.30: DVT physiological mechanisms, action plan, and patient monitoring

DVT uses physical tools (SOVT, artificial elongation, and free articulation with backpressure) organized into a three-dimensional, four-level action plan. DVT exercises are muscle-specific and tailored to clinical goals based on glottic closure patterns, and using the whole body as a vocal instrument. The clinician is expected to understand the background of each exercise and to have clear, conscious intentions for the treatment survey. DVT works by increasing vocal tract inertance, expanding resonance capacity, managing glottal geometry, providing optimal tonus of the laryngeal intrinsic and extrinsic muscles, establishing optimal tension of the vocal fold mucosa for the most effective mucosal wave pattern, and providing better opportunities for formant tuning. The historical background of DVT is presented, followed by explanations of its principles and application protocols.

10.30- 10.45: Coffee break

10.45- 12.30: DVT Exercises: Hands-on training

DVT exercises are explained in detail, including the real-life procedure and muscle-specific applications. DVT devices are used in interactive, hands-on group study to demonstrate various tricks and troubleshooting techniques. The DVT exercises should be considered in two dimensions: the exercise structure and each exercise’s relationship to the treatment process. In this way, participants will understand what each exercise means for each patient and which exercise should be chosen for what purpose. The issue is not so much how the therapeutic exercise is applied or how to use a device, but rather how to determine the method for achieving the treatment goals. The exercise and the device should be nothing more than tools used to achieve this goal.

12.30-13.30: Lunch Break

13.30-15.00: DVT Exercises: Hands-on training cont’d

15.00-15.15: Coffee break

15.15- 16.30: Clinical indications and scenarios of DVT
